The Flying Machine is a flying model rocket kit made by Apogee, inspired by the science fiction "Giulio Verne style". It is equipped with two really functional lateral boosters, with 18 mm type B or C engines, and a central 24 mm type D, E or even F.

The rocket is large and it is definitely impressive thanks to the embossed decorations that make it look like metal, with an appearance of the past.

The presence of boosters and decorations make it a suitable model for skilled and patient builders: rivets must be made one by one!

Boosters:
The Flying Machine's boosters provide an additional boost to take-off, while the central engine continues to give thrust until its burnout. The motors in the boosters, normal B or C type Estes or Klima, must therefore have a shorter burning time than the central motor.

The detachment of the boosters takes place at burnout of their engines: the nosecone is ejected thus freeing the body of the booster which is free to break off and fall. Each booster returns to the ground slowly thanks to the streamer recovery.

Payload section:
The Flying Machine is equipped with a body tube section that can accommodate a payload (photo- or videocamera, altimeter or others) that is 45 cm long, enough space for whatever payload you want this rocket to carry.

Like all Apogee kits, the quality is absolute: all the wooden parts are carefully laser-cut, as are the slots and holes in the cardboard tubes. Instructions are very detailed and extremely clear, and vacuum-formed plastic parts are also included as decoration.
As a bonus, the kit includes a display stand made of laser-cut cardboard parts to be assembled.

The kit is completed by a 60 cm nylon parachute with kevlar shock cord and a set of self-adhesive vinyl decals.

To launch this rocket you need a launch pad with a 6 mm launch such as the Klima Launch Pad, the Estes Pro Series Launch Pad or the Aerotech Mantis (not included), and a 12 volt launch controller such as the Estes Pro Series II Launch Controller or the Aerotech Interlock (not included).
For the simultaneous ignition of three engines (in case of use with boosters) we recommend using the Tapematch and Stage Igniters by Klima (not included).

You will need to build this kit:

  • pencil
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • paper adhesive tape
  • cutter
  • aliphatic glue or other wood glue
  • cyanoacrylate glue
  • sandpaper
